Flue Gas Cleaning Technology

The treatment of flue gases, e.g. produced in power plants or (hazardous) waste incineration plants, make high demands on the applied technology. These flue gases comprise different combinations and concentrations of pollutants, like SOx, HCI, HF, NOx, particulates as well as various heavy metals, and organic compounds like dioxins, furans and VOC. Prior to releasing the flue gas into the atmosphere, these pollutants need to be reduced to admissible legal emission limits.

Steuler Anlagenbau supplies state-of-the-art flue gas cleaning systems featuring high removal efficiencies at low investment and operating costs, maximum operational reliability as well as ease of maintenance and operation.

Our flue gas cleaning technology is used for new constructions, retrofitting and process optimization, e.g. in:

  • Incineration plants for power and heat generation, usually fired with coal, heavy oil or other „dirty fuels“
  • Incineration plants for the disposal or thermal utilization of industrial residues, typically incineration plants for (hazardous) waste, off-gas, sewage sludge or dross (waste containing precious metals)
  • Thermal process plants, e.g. plants for recycling, soil decontamination, ammunition destruction, calcinations, cement/clinker production, zinc smelting, metal roasting and sintering
  • Chemical and petrochemical process plants, typically production plants in extractive, cosmetic or pharmaceutical industry

Selection of typical flue gas cleaning processes

  • Wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) with lime(stone) / gypsum scrubbers for medium and large and especially highly SOx-laden flue gas flows often executed as steel-reinforced scrubber with BEKAPLAST™ (polypropylene) lining
  • Wet flue gas cleaning with chemical/physical absorption (usually caustic soda) for small and medium flue gas flows
  • Dry HF sorption by means of Steuler’s Hydrated Lime Modules for the easy cleaning of HF-containing exhaust gases at low pressure drop
  • Catalyst plants for selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides (SCR-/DeNOx) or for catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide CO, Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), dioxins/furans PCDD/PCDF, volatile organic compounds (VOC) and other pollutants
  • Dry flue gas cleaning by dosing of pulverized absorbent like hydrated lime or sodium bicarbonate for removal of acidic gases like HCl, HF, SOx, etc. By dosing additional carbon-based adsorbents, the flue gas can be cleaned from heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), dioxins/furans PCDD/PCDF or volatile organic compounds (VOC).
  • Thermal treatment plants with kilns, post combustion chambers or thermal oxidizers
